専門領域におけるお取り組み

1992年に、東北大学チームが世界に先駆けて矯正用チタンミニプレートを絶対的な固定源に利用した
治療法を開発して以来、成人矯正のみならず、成長期患者の第2期治療や顎変形症の外科的矯正にも
大きな変革をもたらした。

その方法はSkeletal Anchorage System (SAS)として世界に知られることになった。とりわけ、最近では、
外科的矯正における術前矯正を省略して、最初に顎矯正手術を施し、顎変形を修正した後の不正咬合を
術後矯正のみで改善するというSurgery-First法を考案した。

それによって、治療期間が大幅に短縮されただけではなく、術前矯正中の顔貌や咬合の悪化が皆無になった
ことから、顎変形症患者に福音をもたらす結果となっている。

現在、SASおよびSurgery-Firstによる治療を洗練するための努力を重ねている。さらに、これらの治療法は、
失敗症例の再治療に極めて有効であることから、矯正治療結果に悩んでいるクライアントの救済法にもなっている。
